The current economic climate has been disastrous for the job market. The oil industry was one of the hardest sectors to be hit, and it registered its lowest drop for many years as soon as the recession became confirmed. But of course it wasn’t just the oil industry that was affected; virtually every single industry has felt the negative effects. As companies have reacted to try and stop the rot, millions of people have lost their jobs as businesses around the world tried to stabilize their overheads. The end result is that the industries that are continuing to trade normally are those where demand never lets up, just as in the oil industry.
The oil industry is actually in the middle of a recruitment drive looking for new staff to man their oil rigs. The present sourcing center for the industry is out in the Middle East, and the products from this industry are some of the biggest traded commodities anywhere in the world. So influential has this market sector become that we have seen new developments in the Middle East where before there was only desert. Statistics show that the oil industry has single handedly made a lot of men very rich. So called “Black Gold” is undenied wealth, and used properly, this wealth can change economies almost overnight. However it is also a very expensive business to finance, especially when some of the mining has to done hundreds of miles offshore.
It does of course require an enormous investment of cash to get a new project off the ground, but the eventual pay out easily covers the initial outlay. It has to be said that the pay for working out on the rigs is excellent thanks to the value of the commodity itself. But in the world as a whole today, every single country in the civilized world has become dependent on oil. This dependency leads each nation into having to purchase millions of barrels of oil in order to keep the wheels of their industries turning, and in particular the automobile industries. But watching the continually increasing need for more oil, and bearing in mind the needs of the developing nations, it looks like the oil industry is going to be continuing into the foreseeable future.
Another very important reason for joining or remaining in the oil industry, and particularly on the oil rigs, is the need to manage the resource efficiently. As we know, a high proportion of the world oil supply comes from the Middle East. The fact is that oil is a strictly limited resource, and governments around the world are becoming ever more conscious for the necessity to manage this limited supply. It is for this very reason that a controlling body has been formulated to try and make sure that each oil producing nation matches supply to demand. This controlling body is also tasked with responsibility for making sure that the oil industry remains a profitable industry and that it continues to prove a reliable source of new employment going forward. The other essential responsibility that this body has, is to make sure that everyone is singing to the same hymn sheet, and that anyone who starts to sing out of tune gets sanctioned.
Of all of the world’s commodity markets, the oil industry is one of the most stable. Because the demand for oil is set to remain so high, but at the same time we have such a good management structure in place, the industry looks set to be stable for many years to come, so it promises to remain an active employment sector, and getting a job aboard one of the oil rigs will be one of the best paid jobs you could hope for.

looking online places want me to pay for the info, does anyone know who i can contact for direct hire?
If you are looking for a oilfield job, look into a job site that provides it’s services directly to oilfield or start applying directly to drilling companies. You could also look into service companies if you would like to be in oilfield services. Just to name a few employers:
Drillers:
Transocean
Diamond
Ensco
Service Companies:
Schlumberger
Halliburton
GE Oil and Gas
Weatherford
Job Sites:

I know this is downright terrible… But my boyfriend is an engineer and work on an oil rig near to Greenland. I’ve been planning on my boyfriend’s birthday for a while and I’ve been teasing and hinting about it.
I was suppose to fulfill his fantasy, have his favorite dinner cooked and ready when he get home on Sunday evening (something that would mean so much to him since I normally don’t cook or eat dinner), and purchase tickets to a big kick boxing event that is happening next weekend.
But since we were supposed to spend valentine day together and we were suppose to do something special. But one of the engineers who were supposed to take over for the next shift ended up in hospital. So my boyfriend end up has to take his shift as well. Normally I’d be okay with this, but he wasn’t here for Christmas because he was the rookie at his company. Then on valentine day, I begged him to try get home, but he says he cannot do much.
So yeah… I was bitter about this. But I do have intention to carry through with his birthday plan. Especially since I had to really begs him to tell me what he’d like because he was too afraid to tell me because in past his relationships ruin anything good for him.
He has got out of Special Force that he really doesn’t wanted to leave just to stay with a girl he used to be with. He still really regrets this decision and sometime got really down over it.
He also was supposed to move to a top school in Switzerland for graduate school. His other ex begged to go with him after he tried to break up. He caved in and let her come along. However she did something that end up got them in some serious legal trouble and was forced to move back to the country. Shortly afterward, he ended up landing a job at the oil rig he’s at now.
But I was so down about valentine day that I keep putting everything off. I was never in mood to prepare myself to fulfill his fantasy because I was down about valentine day. I also postpone learning how to cook his favorite meal and was going to try making it this weekend to see if it turns out right. But I have to work most of the weekend which will leave me with almost no time. I just tried to buy tickets to the kickboxing event he really wants to attend only to find out it was sold out.
I’m so upset about everything. I feel so awful about this. I don’t want to be the next girl who really let him down. He have been nothing but wonderful to me and he really deserve everything that he was supposed to get. I don’t know what to do now. I’m so afraid I’m going to let him down and lose him. I am so embarrassed by this. What can I do? How can I make it up to him?
Do the best you can! Do what you can do, and for the things you couldn’t, let him know that you tried really hard but couldn’t do them? Checked out any sites where people might be scalping tickets? If you’re desperate, try!
I’m sure he wont feel you let him down because his past gf’s really went out of their way to do stupid things. You’re really trying hard so let him know that after he recieves your dinner etc… Tell him you love him and really wanted to get what he wanted! If he gets mad, that’s his problem because you’re really trying. You could promise him to try get tickets to the next kickboxing event etc…something like that

Apply for jobs as roustabout. There are many drilling rig operators looking for hard working, drug-free individuals who have a desire to learn and work. Do a quick search on roustabout jobs.

i have no experience on the rigs, no degree, how do i go about it, what steps do i need to take,, and what sites are actually employing? etc.. help please
thanks
You would have to start at the bottom, possibly as a roustabout or in the mess.
There are some requirements, for example you will have to take the offshore survival course. It may be difficult to persuade an employer to pay for this due to your lack of qualifications.
Look up the oil service companies by Googling them and contact any you fancy. You will need to be persistent even to get an interview.
However, the rewards are good and you get a lot of free time if you go on a 2 on/2 off rota.
Good luck in your endeavors!

Ive been thinking about getting a job on an oil rig. From what ive read on the net, many people get employment without holding a specialist degree as they need people who are able. Ive been working in mostly constuction related jobs, want to do geology degree and now im looking into what jobs would be avaliable when i finish. Does anyone know what the working patterns are for people (starting out) with degrees are on an oil rig, compared to those without ? I know this is a bit of a vauge question as there are many different job roles, but generally do most workers have qualifications. Thanks

My husband and I have been married for five years, four months. We have a really great relationship and friendship, we are truly best friends, we have been together for a total of ten years.
Money has recently been tight, but we always make it through with a "little" bit extra. but he says it’s not good enough for his family.
We have also been doing things to better our lives, I returned to school to get my degree so that I can make more money in the future, but instead of my husband going back to school to get his degree, he applied for an offshore oil-rig job, the job pays 1,000 per week and comes with the chance to grow faster and advance, but he will be gone for three to four weeks at a time and when he comes home he will be here for 7-10 days before he goes back.
I want to be a supportive wife but I hate the fact that this is what he chose, we have spent one night apart since we got married,so that’s going to feel pretty strange. We have gotten into several arguments over it and it is becoming a strain on our marriage.
And I also have my mother in my ear saying that offshore work is for a single person, not someone with a family (she’s getting on my nerve) and not to mention we live in her basement, don’t get me wrong, we have our own entrance, it’s fully furnished, very modern, 2bdrm, 1bath but we share a kitchen.
Yesterday he called while I was out running errands and told me to go to this condo to fill out an application, so I did, then I get a call back from this lady stating that we were approved for the 2bdrm,2bath condo and I’m like O.K…..things are moving way too fast for me…..
He is a great provider and always has been, and let me also state that he’s 25 years old, I’m 26.
Please give me some advice to help me get through this feeling of sadness and confusion. This situation maybe ideal for two people that wasn’t deeply in love with one another, but I rather have him than to have all the riches in the world.
Please only married people or people that have been in seriously committed relationships for more than two years give me advice. Thanks
Do be prepared to be self sufficient for a while.
You say you’re a supportive wife but you are not being supportive about his decision. Sometimes you have to give in. You can do this. In the long run, the security that he’ll be able to provide will create peace and happiness in your future. It’s worth the sacrifice.
Also know that his sacrifice is greater than yours by choosing to do this. Offshore work is VERY hard and he will be lonlier than you.
The bright side is that this will make him value his family and home life more than ever when he’s home and when he’s done and it’s time to settle.
Get the condo.
Make the changes and the sacrifice. As long as you stay strong, faithful and optimistic and supportive through it all, you’ll be so glad you did in the end.

The following is the most recent news that I am aware of:
"Russian scientists’ say Climategate data rigged
December 16, 2009 · 3 comments
John O’Sulivan did just a great job telling this story in a comment on one of our previous articles here today, that we’re going to run it as a standalone story:
by reader John O’Sullivan:
Russian scientists have just completed their analysis of the Climategate fudging and proved that the data sets for Russia and the whole of the former Soviet Union were rigged!
The Russians specifically state that the full set of Russian data does NOT support global warming, imagine how different the bright red dot over Russia now looks. Bear in mind that the Russian data alone accounts for over 12% of all the IPCC data. We also know there are big discrepancies in the New Zealand and Australian data. While the oldest raw data in the world, from the CET (Central England Temperature) record proves no warming in the UK for over 350 years!
Again the new Russian accusation is completely believable, yet is completely unverifiable because CRU has refused to release the data. This data and code release that is the subject of illegal blocking of FOIA’s (freedom of information) is one of the keys in the Climategate emails. We need to know the list of stations used and we must have copies of the raw data to properly assess if a mega fraud has been perpetrated. If the Climategate scientists were real scientists and not crooks they would not have defied FOIA requests for three years. This is not how proper scientists do their work. And we would not now be in the position where lawsuits have been served to force these snake oil salesmen to show the world what they’ve got to hide.
The Russians are now making a very powerful accusation, which if true could totally stand on its head the whole climate science debate. Many of the so-called peer-reviewed papers allegedly supporting man made global warming are based on the Russian dataset that has the highest trend of the major ground datasets."
John Q….. I believe that the ‘report’ was carried by wattsupwiththat.com and climategate.com
Dana and Richard…. Thanks for your responses! I am just sort of curious as to why "Russian scientists" claimed that something was ‘unusual’ with the data.
Here is another link to the report/claim:
http://en.rian.ru/papers/20091216/157260660.html
Dana…. you provided a link making reference to an analysis done by Tim Lambert!!?? He’s the Keith Olbermann of Faux Warming…. not very credible.
Richard: "It doesn’t take a PhD to determine that the acceptance of propaganda, which reinforces bad behavior, and the level of denial will be higher."
Mike: "It doesn’t take a PhD to determine that the acceptance of propaganda, which paints actions of bad behavior, and the level of belief will be higher."
Go ahead Richard, tell me I am blind to my propaganda and you see it all clearly.
************************************************
Edit: Dana, excellent work. I think that link you provided qualifies for an entry into the next IPCC report.
Edit2: Dana, that wasn’t an ad hominem, it was sarcasm. Have you completely lost your sense of humor?
************************************************
Edit: Baccheus, excellent work. "He is a dishonest person with a political agenda. " Now if you could only find just one other example, you’d have enough for a blockbuster of a book, shock the world…yeah…
I’ll even help you get started—everyone who supports AGW is an honest person without an agenda. Okay, go from there….you’re welcome.
********************************************
Edit: RobberGirl, please refer to those Russians by their proper title: "Denyetters".

Right now im in the army as a 68w Health care specialist (Combat Medic). I’m currently an EMT-B and have the choice to add a year to my contract and go to school to be an LPN. But almost everything i read says they want paramedics for offshore oil rigs. Will LPN work or no? any other information about the job would be greatly appreciated.
LPN won’t work. LPN’s are trained to be part of a medical team in a hospital, while paramedics are trained to operate as a sole medical provider out in the field. LPN’s simply don’t have the skills necessary to do the job.
